Use Your Medicare OTC Benefit Card at Discount Drug Mart
Make the most of the benefits you already have
Your health insurance plan may include an over-the-counter benefit card that helps cover eligible health and wellness items. Many people have these benefits available and do not use the full amount before it expires.
Discount Drug Mart makes it easy to use your OTC benefit card while shopping for the everyday items you already need. From medicine cabinet basics to personal care products, eligible OTC items may be covered by your plan’s benefit card. Many OTC benefit programs allow you to stock up for the whole family with approved health products, first aid supplies, allergy medications, and other wellness essentials.
Benefits vary by health insurance plan, and some plans reset or expire at the end of each quarter. Check your card balance and plan details so you do not leave unused benefits behind.
How OTC benefit cards work
OTC benefit cards are connected to participating health insurance plans. Depending on your plan, your card may provide a set allowance for eligible over-the-counter products.
Select from various eligible OTC items from your health plan approved categories.
Present your OTC benefit card as a form of payment.
Use another payment method for any remaining balance not covered by your card.
Discount Drug Mart offers a variety of health and wellness products; however, not all items sold in our stores are eligible for purchase using your OTC benefit card. Eligible products are determined by your health plan and benefit program. Coverage and item eligibility may vary by member, plan, and benefit period. Items that are not approved by your benefit program must be purchased using another form of payment. Please review your plan's benefit materials or contact your health plan directly for specific eligibility information. Discount Drug Mart is not responsible for benefit eligibility determinations made by your health plan.

What can I buy with an OTC card?
OTC benefit cards may help cover products such as:
- Cold, cough, and allergy products
- Pain relief products
- First aid supplies
- Vitamins and supplements
- Digestive health products
- Eye and ear care
- Personal care items
- Other approved health and wellness essentials
Because every plan is different, check your plan materials, card provider portal, or benefit card app to confirm which items are eligible.
Benefit card transactions are subject to health plan eligibility rules. Items declined by the benefit program must be paid for using an alternate form of payment.
Do OTC benefits expire?
Many health insurance plans offer OTC benefits on a monthly or quarterly schedule. In some cases, unused benefits do not roll over.
That means you may lose available funds if you do not use them before your plan’s deadline. Review your card balance and benefit schedule regularly, especially near the end of each quarter.
Not sure what your card covers?
Check with your health plan or card provider before you shop.
